Cookies Are Ready Again!
Alley members are always ready to lend a hand for a worthy cause. The Center, which gracefully allows us to use their facility, sponsors the cookie project “GINGERSNAP ETC.” each year. Gingersnaps is 100% volunteer driven and all proceeds from the sales of products go to enrich the lives of the 700 adults served daily by The Center Serving People with Mental Retardation. The GINGERSNAP ETC. volunteers have sold more than 3 million dollars of their products and contributed more than $1.5M to The Center.
Did you know the Center/Willow River Farms Gingersnaps came into being at the request of Barbara Bush?
Mrs. Bush was visiting her husband’s office one day where a Bush volunteer named Alicia Lee, also a volunteer for The Center, was working. Mrs. Bush suggested that The Center/Willow River Farms make Gingersnaps their project as well as Fruitcakes. When asked if she would support the project, Mrs. Bush said that she would be happy to.
The work began to develop a recipe that was crisp and spicy with lots of taste. That was the holiday season of 1998 and the rest as they say is history.
If you want to volunteer, come to the monthly meeting and we will make sure one of the contact people get with you.
HOLIDAY COOKIES – NOW IS THE TIME TO ORDER!
When you place an order let The Center know that you are with Cheerful and they can deliver their order to the next alley meeting to be picked up. Alley members can also request that their cookies be decorated with the alley ornament or a holiday ornament. Just let the Center know what ornament you prefer. Also members, if you want you can pick up your order at an alley meeting or give the order to Cricket Cheerful Gingersnaps Coordinator.
